the picture to the left was taken today at Niger Pond at Otis Pike Preserve. The Club submitted a water sample for testing and it was positive for Blue Green Algae which can cause rapid illness and even death in dogs. DO NOT ALLOW DOGS TO ENTER THE POND. The Club will retest the water next week and post the results here. See DEC web information on harmful algal blooms at https://dec.ny.gov/environmental-protection/water/water-quality/harmful-algal-blooms
For your reference, please review the attached AKC page about Blue Green Algae and Dogs, including prevention of illness and identification of symptoms in case your dog may have been exposed:

In 1935, a group of Long Islanders established the first club in the country focused on training retrievers and providing them with the opportunity to demonstrate their skills in hunt tests and field trials. The mission continues today!
The club conducts training sessions, seminars, AKC and HRC endorsed hunt tests, and field trials. For more information, contact us at lirftc@gmail.com
Please download this application and send with check to the Club Treasurer address on the form. If you have questions on the membership categories, please email us at lirftc@gmail.com .

DownloadMost club activities, including training sessions and hunt tests are held at Otis Pike Preserve in Manorville. This land is managed by New York State DEC. We do so under a TRP which has specific restrictions which will be communicated to participants. Individuals are able to use the land outside of organized club events during certain periods of the year for dog training. In order to do so you must obtain a three year land use permit, and a parking permit if applicable. Please review the requirements for use of DEC land in Suffolk County (dog training is at bottom of page), and complete the application for a permit. Both these requirements and the link for the permit are provided below. Be sure to select “dog training”as at at least one of the areas of activity you were applying for.
