Most club activities, including training sessions and hunt tests are held at Otis Pike Preserve in Manorville. This land is managed by New York State DEC. We do so under a TRP which has specific restrictions which will be communicated to participants. Individuals are able to use the land outside of organized club events during certain periods of the year for dog training. In order to do so you must obtain a three year land use permit, and a parking permit if applicable. Please review the requirements for use of DEC land in Suffolk County (dog training is at bottom of page), and complete the application for a permit. Both these requirements and the link for the permit are provided below. Be sure to select “dog training”as at at least one of the areas of activity you were applying for.

LIRFTC applies for training TRPs for members to access Otis Pike for training. These TRPs are available for most Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays in April and then June through September. To obtain a copy, email Paul Scheno at lirftc@gmail.com. In the email, note that you have reviewed and agree to the following code of conduct for use of TRPs:
TRP Code of Conduct
It’s that time of year again when we have access to the property at Otis Pike for training. The permits from the state are Temporary Revocable Permits and by definition can be revoked at any time for any reason. I just want to ensure that any actions by club members never become the reason for revocation so to that end I’ve written a Code of Conduct that all members must agree to as a condition of receiving a copy of our TRP.
1). TRPs are not to be shared or duplicated. Each member must have their own copy whenever they are on the property. Access by any visitors or prospective members will coordinate in advance with a club officer.
2) All restrictions as specified on the TRP will be observed. Entry is only on the dates specified on the TRP and the vehicle limit will be strictly enforced.
3) Gate locks will only be open when necessary to access the property. All gates will remain locked at all times while on the property and must be locked upon exit. Open or unlocked gates may result in revoking of your TRP.
4). Otis Pike is a shared use property. We have no more right to be there than any other property user. Friendly and courteous interactions go a long way to keeping access. Be especially aware of interactions between dogs and horses.
5). Pick up your trash! And while you’re at it pick up any other trash that you may find. Be especially cognizant of fishing garbage around the ponds. Unfortunately, the fishermen are not that considerate so be careful of hooks and fishing line.
6). Limit vehicle use to roads.
7). Any accidents or incidents on the property should be reported to the Club President immediately.
